Methodology

Local Media Analysis

Our team conducts thorough media analysis in multiple languages, employing Discourse Analysis techniques. This enables us to discern the topics discussed in the local press concerning specific events, understand the dynamics among key stakeholders, interpret their viewpoints, and analyse the likely intent behind party speeches. By applying this approach, we go beyond the explicit words of newspapers, TV news, advertisements, and social media to uncover complex narratives and underlying communication strategies.

This multidisciplinary method allows us to access hard-to-reach information and assist clients in corporate reputation management, surveys of public and industry opinions, fact-checking during negotiations, and understanding the societal pressures exerted on regulators.

Exploration of Public
Records

In high-value transactions, trust and risk mitigation are essential for confident decision-making. At Cathay Insights, we conduct thorough searches of national and regional public records and authoritative databases to verify information, impressions and hearsay.

Through our language proficiency and research expertise, we provide clients with updated and contextualized information. This empowers them to make informed decisions and develop robust risk management strategies, particularly when forming international partnerships.

Structured Conversations

When navigating delicate business conversations in new environments, understanding the unwritten rules and power hierarchies is crucial. At Cathay Insights, we solicit direct and discreet conversations with on-the-ground experts directly involved in the matter at hand, who are either directly referred by close relationships or have been personally known to us for extended periods. We then cross-reference their personal opinions with media coverage and academic studies to create a comprehensive understanding of rules and facts that consider multiple diverging points of view.

This approach allows our clients to grasp the magnetic field of power relations within which they are operating when entering a new market or managing an unexpected challenge.

Stakeholder Mapping

When evaluating a long-term business commitment to a project in a challenging environment, it is crucial to contextualise stakeholders’ interests within the legal, financial, technological, and operational capacities and constraints of the institutions involved. We leverage our professional network, along with our expertise in feasibility studies for large construction projects and academic backgrounds, to provide factual insights.

This enables us to assist clients in making informed decisions in corporate diplomacy, investment strategies, risk management, and security measures.
